Bye, Bye Fay!!

Tropical Storm Fay has FINALLY made its way though Florida now, which means I no longer have to sit here waiting to see what this storm the size of Florida is going to do. We were extremely lucky with the storm. We barely lost power, only for a few hours today and randomly last night. I think part of that is because I live a couple of houses down from the Fire and Police Station, so we are on the same grid.

Damage wise, we had some flooding in our yard and driveway, but the roads weren’t flooded, just some standing water. We also had some things blown around in the back yard, but nothing major was damaged or destroyed. We did have some branches break, but that was pretty insignificant. I live a couple a blocks away from the Beach, but they city officials did not even put up a voluntary evacuation for us.

If you follow hurricanes / tropical storms you will see that Fay was an extremely odd T.S. It’s very rare for a storm to hit North Florida, and Fay sat on the coast for about three days before finally coming onto land and crossing the state. Here is the interesting thing, Fay did not lose strength or gain strength while sitting in the ocean practically stationary.

So in a nutshell, this was one of those weeks for me, and most of the people in the state of Florida. I was really lucky when it came to damages, but many people weren’t. I believe seven people died during the storm in the Jacksonville area, and probably more in other parts of the state. I’m just glad that this storm is over and hopefully it won’t take too long for the city to dry out and for the power and cable to be restored to the entire state.

Tropical Storm / Hurricane Fay & Alice Cosmetics

Hey gals and guys, I won’t be posting much for the next couple of days because I just so happen to live in Jacksonville FL, and well take a look:

So if I’m not posting, then you will know why. If you are not familiar with looking at one of these maps, the solid red symbol means hurricane and the one with that is not solid is a tropical storm. So as you can see, I will be getting some hurricane wind and rain the next couple of days. So sit tight for a couple of days.

Anyway the lovely lady Patti from Alice Cosmetics was kind enough to send me a few samples for me to try out. When she asked me to do this, I felt really honored to be chosen for this. I feel that you have ” really made it” as a beauty blogger when makeup companies seek out your opinion on different products, so be prepared for reviews for Alice Cosmetics in the near future.

I swear you guys, I will have to break out a piece of paper and a pen and literally write down everything I want to post on and stick to it!!! Maybe I’ll start writing reviews during the hurricane. You can never go wrong with a pen and paper.

Especially if you are listening to Bat out of Hell I, II, and III :)

Review: Cover Girl Amazemint Lipgloss in Happy Hour

Name: Cover Girl Amazemint Lipgloss in Happy Hour

Product: 5/5

Available: Anywhere CoverGirl is sold

I have debated with myself on whether or not to give this product a good rating or not. I personally did not like this product, but it wasn’t because of the product itself. If that makes any sense. I bought this particular BLUE lipgloss expecting to get a blue sheen on my lips. It turns out that this gloss actually applies CLEAR with shimmer. So I was understandably disappointed when I tried this out. I have several minty tasting glosses and shimmery balms at home already that gave me the same experience. CO Bigelow, Burt’s Bees, Wet N Wild to name a few brands of minty balms that I already have. BUT I am a beauty junkie and blogger, so I felt that it was my job and responsibility (LOL) to pick this product up to try it. So I bought this and another Amazemint gloss at CVS during their B1G1 Free CoverGirl deal. I eventually ended up returning both of these glosses back to the store.

I returned these products because they just weren’t what I was expecting. But these products do what they are said to do well. If you go in knowing that Happy Hour is actually a clear gloss, then you will be super happy with your purchase. When I applied this gloss to my lips it felt like it lit up my entire mouth with minty freshness. It does give the lips a pretty subtle shimmer and it seems to stay on for a good while. It is non sticky, which is a quality most people like in a gloss.

Final Thoughts: I have no problems with this gloss and what it does. It’s a pretty good deal and it really works, I just thought I was buying something different that what I got. As long as you purchase this gloss with the understanding that it is clear instead of blue, than you are good to go. If you are looking for a blue tinted gloss, good luck, with your search. But for now, I’m just going to enjoy my other minty lip products.

Rant: Why don’t makeup companies update their f*cking websites?

Okay, Wet N Wild just released their new collection of eyeshadow quads and eyeliners to the stores and I came across them this evening at a local Walgreens. However when I came home to get more information about these new goodies, and there wasn’t any mention of the new eyeshadows on the site. In fact, the Wet N Wild site is now just promoting their mineral foundation that came out last summer! WTF?!?

Wet N Wild isn’t the only company that has this problem. Prestige Cosmetics also does not update their website either. Prestige is still promoting their Lash Matrix mascara as their newest product. That particular product came out OVER A YEAR AGO! How wrong is that? Since then, Prestige has released many different items and collections ranging from new lipglosses to new eyeshadow collections and more mascaras. But you wouldn’t know that if you browsed their website.

Milani Cosmetics is also guilty of not updating their website. Their “What’s New” page is showing all the new products that are being released in February and March… 2007. The Runway Eyeshadow palettes STILL haven’t been put onto the website. And as every beauty buff knows, those came out over a year ago.

So can anyone explain to me why these companies, have not put in the time to update their sites? They pay for these sites, and the purpose of said sites is to promote their new products, and yet nothing. Fortunately not all brands take this attitude when it comes to the internet. NYC Color is actually quite good at keeping their site updated with their newest collections, which makes it easier to decide on what you want to look at before you head out to the store.

Does this practice of not updating websites annoy the piss out of anyone else? Hit me up in the Comments with your opinion. :)

My Beauty Crimes

Since many other beauty blogs are doing their own list of beauty crimes, I thought I’d do mine as well.

1. Using my dirty brushes. I, like many others do not clean my brushes as often as I should. But then I do not wear makeup a lot right now, so I guess it works out. LOL.

2. Picking and touching my face. I cannot stand having blemishes and extra hairs on my face, so I am always digging and messing with my face. It’s a horrible habit, but I rarely get breakouts, so it’s all good.

3. Laundry. I know this isn’t exactly related to makeup, but I hate doing laundry, so I tend to put it off as long as possible, which means I tend to wear some clothes more than once. I usually go through my cute clothes first so my clothes really crappy towards the time when I break down and do my laundry. So if my clothes look crappy, then I tend to not look my absolute best.

4. Not wearing SPF. I always forget to put on spf before heading out side. I live in Northern Florida. I have no excuses for not wearing it.

5. Chipped nail polish. I almost never change my nail polish when it starts to chip. When it starts to chip, I tend to pick it off with my fingers, which I’m sure is really bad for the nail in question.

I’ll post other lists in the future!
